I'm glad he was mistaken, because this movie delivered. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home.At first, I was warned that this movie should be skipped, but on further investigation, it turned out that the person warning me had viewed another "Home Sweet Home," that I suppose was released around the same time. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. No, but it’s still a fun watch for your family movie night guaranteed for lots of laughs. Rather than a complete reboot, Home Sweet Home Alone provides nods to its predecessor and offers a fun twist on a classic. Thankfully, 20th Century Studios didn’t go that route. I was really expecting it to be a cringe worthy remake of a classic film. I went into Home Sweet Home Alone very skeptical. I’m going to recommend Home Sweet Home Alone for ages 10 and up. He was laughing SO hard! But he would have been much more happy had I just fast forwarded up until that scene. Don’t get me wrong, he LOVED that entire sequence. My 7 year old was bored right up until they got to the “big scene” towards the end where all of the pranks happen. Although it has the perfect time duration, I still found it rather slow. I don’t think Home Sweet Home Alone will hold the attention of little kids. I watched Home Sweet Home Alone with my husband, two children(ages 7 and 11), and my parents - a complete multigenerational experience! We have all seen the original Home Alone movie, and were curious. There’s your typical “man loses pants” scene, as well as a man getting hit by something in a sensitive area. There is no profanity in Home Sweet Home Alone, however, I did hear multiple uses of the word “stupid.” Mature Content There are certainly several “don’t try this at home” type of stunts. While there are no guns, there are Nerf guns instead. You can expect the same type of pranks from the original movie thrown into this one. Home Sweet Home Alone has an MPAA rating of PG for slapstick violence, rude material, and some language. IS HOME SWEET HOME ALONE KID-FRIENDLY? HERE’S YOUR PARENTS GUIDE: You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled because there are some great cameos you won’t want to miss! Someone even says, “Why are they always trying to remake the classics?” which made me laugh out loud, because isn’t that really what we’re all thinking? There are several throwbacks that will give adults who grew up with the original a good laugh.
Nothing could ever compare to the original. Home Alone has rightfully earned its status as a classic. I’m not sure if that would have been a good idea, as I feel that’s a film that can’t just be redone without criticism. There are several twists I didn’t see coming, and that surprised me - in a good way! Going into the movie, I was expecting a rehashing of the original. While the plot sounds all too familiar, this is not entirely a remake. Home Sweet Home Alone tries incredibly hard to pay homage to the 1990 classic film.
